They say that music soothes the soul. Oh, how this is so very true. It comforts us. It nourishes us. It helps us through deep, dark times. It encourages us to do things we never thought possible. It shows us compassion when none is shown. It evolves with us as we grow as individuals. Music, the food for our soul to heal, thrive, and love.

In all honestly, I love all genres of music, but really don’t care for two. I’ve never been a fan of Jazz or the old time Country music. My favorite genres would have to be pop rock, easy listening, and hip hop. For thirty years, the soothing medleys of pop and hip hop have carried me through my journey in this life, sometimes helping me through some very dark times and others just keeping the cheerful happy soul moving along.

Mariah CareyMy all-time, absolute favorite Music Artist is of course none other than the infamous Mariah Carey. While I realize that may seem somewhat of a cliché me being gay and all, but I fell, head over heels in love with her music when the first album debuted in 1990 with her first #1 Hit Single, Vision of Love. I love every aspect of her music and have enjoyed seeing her grow as an artist and of course, have enjoyed the music as it has evolved over the years. One song above all of the others is my absolute, all-time favorite song from any artist… Fantasy. It spoke volumes to me as I listened to it for the first time in 1995 at the debut of the Daydream album. It was a time in my life when I had recently come out of the closet the prior year and had finally started dating and had my first boyfriend, Jeffrey.

I have four other songs of Mariah’s that are tied for my second favorite song, they are of course Hero, Dreamlover, One Sweet Day, and Butterfly. I cry whenever I hear Hero and Butterfly, but not in a bad way, but in one that gives me strength and courage to continue on with my journey in this life. I cry whenever I listen to One Sweet Day, in honor of those I’ve loved and lost and hopefully one day will see again. Dreamlover makes me yearn for that one person that will eventually come into my life and sweep me off of my feet, I honestly just wish it would happen sooner, rather than later as I’m halfway through my journey.

Celine DionI have three other favorite Music Artists and of course they too are a cliché of a gay man but who really cares! The first and I really don’t have a favorite song of her music as I truly love it all both her English albums and her French albums… the ever so beautiful Celine Dion. Celine’s music touches my soul at a deeper level making me rejoice from within and bounce with the happiness of life. If I truly had to pick one of her songs as a favorite it would have to be Fly both versions of course and when you meld the two together it is absolutely stunning and breathtaking.

Enrique IglesiasMy third all-time favorite Music Artist is Enrique Iglesias. Wow! What can one truly say about Enrique? Considering the fact that I speak both English and Spanish, I fell in love with his music the first time I heard his self-titled album, Enrique. I was hooked. When Escape hit the air waves, I fell in love with another Hero titled song, both versions enthralled me and filled me with warmth. When 7 hit the shelves, I knew unequivocally and without any doubt, I was Addicted to his music. This album has probably been the most impactful of all his music and in some regards all of my favorite Music Artists. His Free and Be Yourself songs truly resonate within me at my core.

In 2006, I had the opportunity to attend a concert of his in Houston and would love to go back to another and for that matter would love to attend one for each of my favorite Music Artists someday. For more information on Enrique Iglesias, please visit his website: http://www.enriqueiglesias.com/ or you can visit his Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrique_Iglesias. If you love Spanish music and ballads you will love his too!

Ricky MartinMy fourth and final all-time favorite Music Artists is none other than Ricky Martin. I said it for years before he came out of the closet when he was on General Hospital (of which I was an avid fan when I was young… but that’s another story) and most just said I said it because I thought he was hot. Well, hell, who wouldn’t think he’s hot, but that was beside the point. I knew it and it never changed my mind when he was straight, I still loved his music. When his self-titled album Ricky Martin was released in 1999 I was again, hooked, completely and totally. His songs, Cup of Life and Livin’ La Vida Loca are two of my all-time favorite songs.

For more information on Ricky Martin, please visit his website: http://www.rickymartinmusic.com/ or you can visit his Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_Martin. Let his music fill you up and you realize you need “Mas” (more) to keep going.
